Danny cools out just before the real wok of the clambake begins.           Don't try this at home!

This pile of wood and stones easily reached a temperature of 1200.

Tables were very well appointed with seating for 200.

The men worked in shifts to control the heat of the stones by flooding the edge with water.

A veteran clamer uses the same technique as clam digging to control the flow of water around the stones.

The equipment and the men were organized to prevent injury and mishaps during the fire building process.

The air temp between the men and the stones reached 200 easily.

The men took turns running back and fourth toward the fire to distribute the stones.

Dan was no slouch as he worked the stones with as much skill as the rest of the crew. At this range your clothes could easily ignite and cause serious burns to the skin.

A water spray was employed to prevent the men from getting burned or over heated.

200 ears of corn waited to be steamed .

The fire was finally controlled and the first layer of seaweed was applied.

The seaweed was carefully piled onto the stones, which gave off a terrific aroma.

Teamwork was critical at this stage of the fire.

The clams were systematically placed onto the fire.

Dan oversees the arraignment of the precious cargo.

Final adjustments are made to the boxes of clams before they are covered with layers of material.

Water is sprayed onto the pile to control the heat an prevent flare ups.

The sarcarfigus is complete and dinner is served.

The meal starts with an endlessly helping of Dan's clam chowder. ( The meal included; clam chowder, classic New England Clam boil package, corn on the cob, and steamed clams from the pile. There was an endless supply of side dishes i.e. American chop suey, chilli, a variety of salads, fruits, vegetables, and deserts of all types.

The scene settles down and the quest enjoy themselves in the cool of the tent .
